The collection consists of a photograph album containing photoprints of the construction of the Panama Canal during a trip to Latin America (1913), and photographs of other Caribbean localities where McCrady stopped while on his ship Prinz Joachim. Also 104 photoprints of San Francisco after the earthquake and fire, 1906. the San Francisco earthquake and fire photographs may have been made by McCrady's father, James Hamilton McCrady. Many of the photographs are annotated and dated.

Biographical / Historical:
Roland A. McCrady was born Oct. 10, 1892 in Rankin, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania; graduated from University of Pittsburgh School of Law, 1913. He used a graduation gift of $500 from his father to travel on the Prinz Joachim to the Panama Canal, and apparently also photographed other Caribbean localities, including Jamaica and Costa Rica.
