Scope and Contents:
This collection consists of one souvenir folio of the August 1929 Tokyo to Los Angeles flight of the Graf Zeppelin No. 127 . The folio, which apparently was given to each passenger, includes photographs of the Zeppelin in flight, under construction, its staterooms, salon, flight deck and also of Count Zeppelin and Dr. Hugo Eckener. Also included in the folio are the menu of the flight luncheon held on the third day of the flight and the passenger list.
Biographical / Historical:
In 1929, the Graf Zeppelin, LZ-127, made a world flight, stopping at Friedrichshafen, Tokyo and Los Angeles. Although the Graf was not the first aircraft to circle the globe, it took only 21 days, 7 hours, 34 minutes, a new record for round-the-world travel by any means. Furthermore it carried a full passenger load over much previously uncharted land.
