Photographs of attendees at a meeting of the International Congress of Americanists in Paris, 1960. The photographs are of Henry B. Collins and his wife, Betty J. Meggers, Clifford Evans, Chester S. Chard and his wife, and Marius Barbeau.
Biographical/Historical note:
The International Congress of Americanists was organized in Paris in 1874 as an outgrowth of the Societe Americaine de France. Its purpose was "to contribute to the progress of ethnographic, linguistic and historic studies relative to North and South America, especially for the period before Christopher Columbus, and to report to those who are interested in these studies." The congress' official meeting for 1960 was held in Vienna.
