Biographical / Historical:
Rosa Newman Walinska (1887-1953) was a sculptor and poet in New York City, New York. Born in Ukraine, Walinska settled in London as a child and and worked in the millinery trade to help support her family. She married Ossip Walinsky in 1906 and had two children. The Walinskys immigrated to the United States in 1915 where she began to experiment with sculpture and formally studied art in her 40s. By the time she was in her 50s, Walinksa was exhibiting her works in solo shows. She died in Manhattan in 1953.

Donated 1977 by Walinska's daughter, Anna.
