The Cynthia Johanson photographs of artists and works of art measure 0.8 linear feet and date from 1987 to 2007. Found are color snapshots and slides of American folk and self-taught artists and their artwork taken by Cynthia Johanson. The photographs were used as resource material for two reference books, 20th Century American Folk, Self Taught, and Outside Art and "Self Taught, Outsider, and Folk Art: A Guide to American Artist, Locations and Resources, written as a collaboration by librarian Betty-Carol Sellen with Johanson. Included are photos of Loy Bowlin, Norman Scott "Butch" Quinn, Fred Smith, Mary T. Smith, and others. Also found are scattered photographs by Jane Botham.

The Cynthia Johanson photographs of artists and works of art measure 0.8 linear feet and date from 1987 to 2007. Due to the small size of this collection the papers are arranged as one series.
Biographical / Historical:
Cynthia Johanson is a Folk Art Society of America and American Library Association member. Betty-Carol Sellen is an author and librarian. Sellen serves on the Board of Directors for Art Enables in Washington, D.C. and is a member of the National Advisory Board for the Folk Art Society of America. Sellen and Johanson collaborated on two books regarding folk, self-taught, and outsider art.

The collection was donated by Betty-Carol Sellen in 2013.
