Scope and Contents:
This microfilm collection of the papers of African American sculptor John W. Rhoden contain correspondence, exhibition catalogs, biographical material, clippings, a scrapbook, personal photographs, and photographs of Rhoden's work.
Biographical / Historical:
John W. Rhoden (1918-2001) was an African American sculptor in Brooklyn, New York. He attended Talladega College, the School of Painting and Sculpture at Columbia University, and the American Academy in Rome. Rhoden created sculptures for the exteriors of buildings including the Harlem Hospital Center and the African American Museum in Philadelphia.

Also held at the Archives of American Art is an oral history interview with John W. Rhoden, 1968 July 21, conducted by Henri Ghent. The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) holds an archival collection documenting the life and career of John W. Rhoden.
