Found here are 24 interviews conducted by McCarthy as part of his research for his PhD dissertation, "Comprised positions: situations for the nude in American painting, 1955-1980" (1992), as well as one interview of Ed Ruscha concerning H. C. Westermann.

The David McCarthy oral history interviews with artists measure 1.2 linear feet and date from 1989 to 1998. Found here are 24 interviews conducted by McCarthy as part of his research for his PhD dissertation, "Comprised positions: situations for the nude in American painting, 1955-1980" (1992), as well as one interview of Ed Ruscha concerning H. Arrangement:
Due to the small size of this collection the sound recordings are arranged as one series.
Biographical / Historical:
David McCarthy (1960-) is an art history professor at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee. He received his BA from Gettysburg University, and his PhD from University of Delaware. He has written several journal articles, contributed chapters to edited volumes, and has published three books: The Nude in American Painting, 1950-1980 (1998), H. C. Westermann at War: Art and Manhood in Cold War America (2004), and American Artists Against War, 1935-2010 (2015).
