Scope and Contents:
The microfilmed Suzanne Bartlett papers relating to Paul W. Bartlett contain correspondence regarding Paul Wayland Bartlett's sculpture and his illness and death (1925-1931) and printed material. Printed material includes a biography of Bartlett; inventories and lists of his works; exhibition catalogs; newspaper clippings; and other printed matter.
Biographical / Historical:
Suzanne Bartlett (1861-1954) married sculptor Paul Wayland Bartlett in 1913. They lived mostly in France, but also in Washington, D.C. and New York. She helped him in his work, and after his death in 1925, went on to arrange exhibitions of his work, and had numerous pieces recast and sold to benefit a proposed memorial studio (never executed).

Provenance:
Lent for microfilming 1994 by The Tudor Place Foundation, Inc. along with the papers of Paul Wayland Bartlett, and papers of Caroline Ogden-Jones Peter and Armistead Peter, Jr. relating to Paul W. Bartlett (each group has been cataloged separately). The Tudor Place Foundation, Inc. inherited the papers in 1984 with the estate of Armistead Peter III, husband of Caroline Odgen-Jones Peter, Suzanne Bartlett's daughter, and Paul Bartlett's stepdaughter.

The Archives of American art does not own the original papers. Use is limited to the microfilm copy.
