Anthropologist, naturalist, and author George Bird Grinnell (1849-1938) worked among Plains tribes, especially the Cheyenne, from the 1870s onward. Photographs taken by his wife Elizabeth Curtis Grinnell during his fieldwork probably accompanied the objects he donated to MAI in 1922.
Outdoor portrait of a woman, the wife of Crooked Nose (possibly Lucy Crooked Nose), wearing a dress with yoke covered with many elk teeth, belt with metal disks, and lower body wrapped in blanket or fringed shawl
