Abstract:
Charles D. Walcott records observations of Grand Canyon in 1879 while in the employ of the U.S. Geological Survey, and notes on Arizona in 1930. The notebook from Grand Canyon is handwritten in pen and pencil; the center of the note book is empty, with text restarted toward the back. Entries are listed by date, and usually title location observed. Locations are extensively described, and also include sketches, inserts, descriptions of sections, details about stone types, color, texture, and fossils found. Sites mentioned include Sink Valley and Knob Canyon. |Notes from 1930 describe sites at (Arizona) Music Mountain near Peach Springs, Del Rio, Algae in Naukoweap, Kaibab Trail, Naukoweap Creek. Includes notes by Charles Elmer Resser, Alexander Stoyanow, and Edwin D. McKee.

Abstract:
Charles D. Walcott records observations of sites across Montana while working for the U.S. Geological Survey. Includes descriptions of sections, Cambrian strata, Algae beds, glacial formations, fossils found, sketches (some very detailed), and photographs. Formations observed include: Algonkian, Greysan, and Collen. Sites observed include the vicinity of Beautooth Butte, Mt. Edith, North Fork Dearborn River, Big Blackfoot Valley, Mt. Jumbo (photographs), Haystack Butte, Saw Mill Canyon, and Marysville.

Abstract:
Charles D. Walcott records observations of geological formations in Kanab Canyon in during September 5-October 7, 1882 for the U.S. Geological Survey. Entries are listed and headed by dates. He notes the travel progress, weather, characteristics of stone observed (color, texture), detailed sketches, and fossils observed and collected. He focuses on Permian and Carboniferous fossils and layers. Journal entries fill the first third of the notebook. In the back of the notebook, he lists boxes of fossils sent from Milford UT, and Nevada, giving a basic description of the types of fossils included.

Abstract:
Charles D. Walcott records notes about sites observed across Inyo County, California from 1894 to 1897, while in the employ of the U.S. Geological Survey. Each set of notes are several handwritten pages, generally separated into acid free envelopes. Notes include descriptions of sections, sketches, latitude and longitude positions, and fossils found. Types of sites observed included mountain ranges, river beds, and recent faults. Locations include the vicinity of Waucoba Mountain, Owens Valley, Big Pine, and Waucoba Canyon. Includes letter, James Perrin Smith to Charles D. Walcott, February 25, 1897 discussing Triassic Fossils that Walcott had collected near Lone Pine, in Inyo County, California.

Abstract:
Charles D. Walcott records details of his observations of Cambrian strata in Wyoming from 1891 to 1929. Some of the work from 1924 was completed as part of his work for United States Geological Survey (USGS). Descriptions of sites and strata are detailed and include measurements (in feet) and some illustrations. Sites observed include the vicinity of Laramie, Big Horn Peak, Tensleep Canyon, South Fork Teton Creek, Warm Spring Mountain, Torry Creek, and Thermopolis. Includes an extract of a letter, Eliot Blackwelder to Charles D. Walcott, March 1, 1926; notes by Charles Elmer Resser and L. J. Moraces; and memorandum, Walcott to Resser, 1924.
