Notes:
Small plastic pieces found in stomach may have caused minor gastritis but did not appear to have severely impacted the animal's health. Recovered debris retained at IFAW. Heart and lung pathology is more likely to have resulted in death.

Notes:
Sub-adult harp seal was found at Chatham Light Beach, unresponsive and lethargic. The animal was collected and a complete exam completed. The animal was in poor health and died at the CCSN office about 1 hr after arriving. A necropsy was performed the following morning.

Notes:
Seal first observed alive and behaviorally normal on 4/3. Seal was monitored throughout day by IFAW MMRR volunteer. Following day (4/4), seal was observed hauled-out far away from water and ingesting large amounts of sand/gravel. IFAW MMRR staff were en-route to assess seal when received report that seal died. IFAW MMRR staff collected carcass and transported to WHOI MRF for overnight storage. Necropsy was performed the following morning (4/4).

Notes:
Animal was initially reported alive by an IFAW volunteer's sister on 3/2/2011. IFAW volunteer (Magor) assessed the animal and observed that it was bright, alert, and responsive, and in good body condition. The animal was put on watch. On the following day, IFAW volunteer reported that the seal had moved down the beach approx 50 yards from the location the previous day, and was still BAR. On 3/4 and 3/5 the seal was became increasingly lethargic, but was kept on watch due to limited rehab space for adult seals. The following morning, the seal was found dead by IFAW staff and was collected. The carcass was stored in the truck overnight and was necropsied the following day at WHOI MRF
