Nine hundred twenty-eight recordings by Duke Ellington's orchestra, of which seven hundred ninety-six were commercially issued, and one hundred thirty-two unissued, which are studio test pressings, concert recordings and recordings done from radio and television broadcasts.

Disc jockey, musician, owner of a record store, published a newsletter called Record Finder 1956-1977.

The bulk of this collection consists of materials pertaining to QUEENIE PIE, a comic opera in seven scenes. Also included are publicity, correspondence for the opera, Ellington's autobiography MUSIC IS MY MISTRESS, and a script for the Ellington work, MY PEOPLE.
Photographs:,Include 18 black-and-white prints, 1969-74: 9 from Mar. 9, 1969 concert of California Youth Symphony Orchestra with Duke as guest, Foothill College, Los Altos; 2 from Bibmbo's Club, San Francisco, Dec. 1969; 3 bust portraits of Duke; 1 of Duke with a friend (Ron Collier?); 3 copies of a publicity shot of Duke at the piano (one is color). Photographers are Doug Rider, Fred English, Ken Yim of the Palo Alto Times, and Sepia Magazine.

Biographical / Historical:
Betty McGettigan met Duke Ellington while coordinating a benefit concert for the California Youth Symphony, ca. 1969. Shortly thereafter, she began working with him as a writer/secretary, especially on the opera QUEENIE PIE.
