"Irrigating the 3-acre Lower Cut Meat Creek Indian School garden by flooding, but we found that the surface ground was so porous that sub-irrigation was a complete satisfactory way to irrigate. I never saw such Irish potatoes, enough to feed the children for months, celery two feet tall, tomatoes that the fruit from two bushels would fill a 100-lb. grain bag, and watermelons by the wagonload." A pond is located east of the big tree in the center of the photograph (cf. BAE Negative Number 53374) and was the source for irrigating the garden. -- Information [by Bratley] with copy negative from BIA (BAE Catalog Number 4368).

"Dam built 1895, Lower Cut Meat Creek School, built by JHB, teacher and the larger boys. Built to get water to irrigate the 3 acre garden. Leyer we found we could make ice. Built ice house back of shop in Bad Lands which kept milk and butter cool. Was never without ice after first year."
A Methodist church at the corner of Okmulgee Avenue and Cherokee Street (The Texas Road). In this building was signed the articles which established peace in 1883 between the warring factions of the Creek Indians, known as the Green Peace War. This building was long since torn down, and I do not think any other picture of it is in existence.
