A thesis documenting the history of the Royal Hawaiian Band, 1836-1980. The history of the band is important because it parallels the history of Hawaii itself and the development of music education. Research sources included books, newspaper articles, periodicals, diaries, government papers and documents, and interviews. Appendices include sample musical programs, musical reportoire, membership rosters, listing of tours and a listing of sound recordings.
