These records include the correspondence of Shannon and Schiesser; minutes of meetings; exhibition proposals; installation floor plans; scripts; conservation planning; budgets; and photographs of HMSG, art works, and artists; and modifications to the Museum's Sculpture Garden.
Historical Note:
The Department of Exhibits and Design, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden (HMSG), is responsible for arranging permanent and temporary HMSG exhibits and monitoring conditions in the Museum's exhibit galleries. From 1971 to 1976 the Department operated under the Director's Office. In 1976 Joseph Shannon was made acting Chief of the Department. He served as Chief from 1977 to 1986. Edward P. Schiesser succeeded Shannon, serving 1986- .
