Scope and Contents note:
Photographs made and collected by J. M. McDonnell in China, Peru, and the Philippines, as well as Florida, Cape Cod, Ohio, Paris, and Washington, DC. They include images of people, markets, harbors, architecture, transportation, and tourist sites such as the Forbidden City and the Great Wall in China. Many photographs were likely made while McDonnell was on military assignment, particularly those of Lima, Peru, and Manila, in the Philippines.
Biographical/Historical note:
J. M. McDonnell was a captain in the US Army Air Corps who was stationed in Manila in 1930. In 1946, he was promoted to colonel and moved to Washington, DC, to work with the War Department.

Scope and Contents note:
Photographs depicting Philippine peoples and aerial views of the islands that were made or collected by John Salsman while stationed in the Philippines. They include depictions of Bagobo, Moro, Negrito, Subanun, and Kalinga people, as well as aerial views of Manila, Zamboanga, Jolo, Mayon and Taal Volcanos, hills and terraces. Most of the prints are mounted on unbound leaves from an album along with newspaper clippings, invitations, a radiogram, and other souvenirs and mementos. The aerial photographs were probably made by photographers at Camp Nichols.
Biographical/Historical note:
John G. Salsman was a Lieutenant and publicity officer in the United States Army Air Corps when he was stationed in the Philippines.
