Prints relate primarily to Dakota (Sioux) Indians, copied from original prints in the collection of the South Dakota State Historical Society. Pierre, South Dakota. [Copies made August, 1958.] List of 435 captions, prepared by James Tubbesing, accompanies prints; only the numbers circled in red are contained in the albums for Bureau of American Ethnology reference.
Local Numbers:
NAA MS 4543
Local Note:
Copies made from microfilm lent by James Tubbesing, 197 W. Whitlock Avenue, Winchester, Virginia, August 1958. (Correspondence and Tubbesing's original list of captions in Bureau of American Ethnology-A Accession files.
Important note: The South Dakota Historical Society does not have its own facilities for photographic work and would find it difficult to supply prints of these photographs, but they have no objection to our copying and distributing prints from those prints in these albums that are clear enough for that purpose.
