The series was divided into four segments, lasting 50 minutes each: The Congo, The Bend of the Niger, The Slave Coast, and Africa's Gift. The presentation also includes footage of musical performance by the Senufo people of the Ivory Coast, and of a performance by Cuban-born Mongo Santamaria and his band, using similar instruments.
