Full film record shot in north central Afghanistan in a mountain village near Mazar. Shots include: Afghan nomad encampment next to dry river bed; scenes of activity around tents; boy bridling and saddling a camel in preparation to break camp; men, women, and children collapsing tents, preparing gear and belongingsfor loading on camels; securing loads upon camels; lead camels with ornate bridles and tack; departure of caravan of camels from site.

Scope and Contents:
Footage shot by Laura Boulton in the Nilgiri Hills (otherwise known as the Blue Hills) of India among the Todas. Shots depict scenes of daily Toda life in and around their distinctive hamlets and houses, examples of family life, traditional greetings and deference shown to men by women who kiss the feet of Toda men, Todas herding and miling their cattle, examples of Toda dance and musical instruments, and a funeral at which a bull is wrestled to the ground by men.

The Nuer

Scope and Contents:
Edited film by Hillary Harris and George Breidenbach made among the eastern Nuer of Ethiopia, a Nilotic cattle-herding people. The cinematic construction of the film seeks to convey a holistic feel for Nuer lifeways, particularly the intimacy between the Nuer and their cattle. Narration provides anthropological accounts of such events as a dispute over bridewealth, a ghost marriage, and a gar (male initiation) ceremony in which two boys receive forehead incisions. Also included is a subtitled interview in which an old man offers his own comments on Nuer life and customs.

Scope and Contents:
Full film record of a research film project documenting the Himba, a pastoral Bantu people of southwestern Angola and northwestern Namibia. Footage features documentation of a rainmaking ceremony with animal sacrifices to the ancestors and the annointing of ombale stones (rain shrines), the tending of cattle herds and the problems of drought, various musical performances, a baby-naming ceremony, and techniques of female hairdressing and braiding. Edited films THE HIMBA and HIMBA WEDDING were produced from this project. Includes associated texts, sound recordings, and production logs.

Full film record of a research film project documenting the Zimba, a pastoral Bantu people of southwestern Angola. Footage documents the organization of Zimba homesteads, role of women in the domestic economy, and men engaged in pastoral activities. Sequences include: women threshing, winnowing, and stamping millet (for cereal and beer); milking cows; watering cattle; weaving baskets; and making fences to protect their fields. Men are shown churning milk and herding and watering cattle.

Outtakes from edited film shows men and women in the process of thatching the roof on a new structure in their homestead. Shots of a man doing the actual weaving and tying of thatch to the pole rafters of a roof assisted by women who are carrying large bundes of cut grass from a field and tying off smaller bundles from which the man works on the roof. These scenes are followed by footage of a rainstorm with shots of rain beating off a grass roof.

Scope and Contents:
Edited film produced from the 1971 Yanomamo film project shot in the Amazon Basin of southern Venezuela and northern Brazil between the Negro and Upper Orinoco rivers. The laborious and tedious daily work of collecting wood by Yanomamo women is revealed in this film. A woman is shown chopping a large log as her children play nearby. The day's worth of wood is loaded into a large basket and the burden slung on a tumpline from the woman's forehead for the return to the village.

Footage shot by William Van Valin as leader of the John Wanamaker Expedition to Pt. Barrow, Alaska for the University of Pennsylvania Museum. Footage known under the title TIP TOP OF THE EARTH: ARCTIC ALASKAN ESKIMO EDUCATIONAL SERIES. Includes subtitles and intertitles explaining shots. Cassette includes sections of films entitled "Eskimo Reindeer Industry", "Eskimo Seal Hunting", "Eskimo Whaling, part II", and "Scenes of the Midnight Sun". Scope and Contents:
Edited film reel (reel 5) includes shots of a native village which includes women with woven mat headcovers, interior shots of a men's house showing sleeping quarters, ritual and domestic paraphenalia; scenes of men smoking tobacco and details footage documenting the stages and sexual division of labor involved in making native tapioca known as "sac-sac". This includes shots of males felling and de-barking a sago palm, pulverizing its pith with special mallets, women carrying the pounded sago to a strainer/washing trough, decanting the sago starch, and cooking the mixture to proper consistency. Film has intertitles.

Scope and Contents:
Full video record is a documentation project of daily activities in Asan Tol, a central marketplace/bazaar in Kathmandu which is important both as a hub for economic transactions and a focal point in the religious geography of the Kathmandu Valley. Sequences include street level shots of itinerant fruit sellers who ply their trade on the streets of Kathmandu; flower sellers making garlands and selling flowers next to the Temple of Annapurna in Asan Tol; scenes in a Newar courtyard (baha) with shots of votive shrines; ritual offerings of puja during a Theravada Buddhist ceremony; various scenes of the urban ecology around Asan Tol; shots of rice paddys being worked in the countryside around Kathmandu near the village of Toka; women planting rice, men hoeing and plowing; and local temples.
