Portrait of Mrs. David Heyward with her body turned to the right, her head facing almost forward, and her gaze directed toward the viewer. She wears a low-cut dress with a square neckline trimmed with lace, a rose, and a ribbon bow with a pin in the middle. Around her shoulders she wears a jacket trimmed with fur tassels and ruffled lace sleeves. A pearl choker is around her neck, and her dark hair is swept back in a chignon.
