Summary:
Domestic interior with Carl Van Vechen seated with his legs crossed on a black rug with red circles. He holds a book and is smoking. A cat sits on a pile of three books on the edge of the rug. At left is a typewriter and at right is a piano and bookshelf. Two tied-back black fringed curtains hang at center, framing three scenes: a cityscape; a robust version of the sitter holding a lamp and platter; and a dressing table.
