Freer, Frederick Warren 1849-1908
Oil on canvas
Bullock, Margaret E., 2000.
Portrait of a young woman, facing left, in profile, in front of a mirror on the wall behind her. She wears an elaborate hat with a large feather and a coat with a ruffled neck. Her head is turned forward her right and she is looking at herself in the mirror, while she pulls on a pair of long black gloves. The mirror is a large rectangle, which is draped in the upper left corner with a cloth and decorated at the top with an open fan. A small table covered with a lace cloth sits below the mirror. A glass vase with flowers is placed on the left side of the table. The mirror reflects a folding screen.
