The presentation explores the evolution of museums and ways in which museums can make themselves more useful to their immediate communities. Suggestions included involving people in the decision making, fundraising, and membership of museums; understanding the role of urban projects as they relate to museums; and determining the contributions the museum can make toward solving problems which plague its community and its residents. Additionally, the concepts of the branch museum and the neighborhood museum are explained. Quotes by S. Dillon Ripley and John Kinard are integrated into the presentation.
