Summary:
Seminar participants present on and discuss the decentralizing museums and other cultural institutions to serve the needs of the people; the educational and outreach efforts of museums; the advantages and disadvantages of branch museums and community museums; the accessibility of museums and exhibitions in the black community; ways to involve the community, particularly the black community, in museum exhibits and programs; importance of black people and other community members, not their representatives, participating in the seminar and telling their own stories; the role of arts as an extension of literacy; and financial management and resources. Participants and speakers include Edward Spriggs, Topper Carew, Tom Lloyd, Hugh Hardy, John Torres, Barry Schwartz, Roger Ratan, and John Kinard.
