Summary:
Wolf von Eckhardt, who studies the planning of liveable cities, talks about communities and what is needed to build new communities; he stresses the system of cost-benefit analysis does not work when developing communities. He also talks about the current state of the United States, particularly the segregation by race, economics, age, functions and activities of life in urban areas which is disintegrating society; and the need for new communities to reintegrate society. von Eckhardt suggests Anacostia-Bolling as an ideal for creating such a community which solves urban problems, which are really societal problems, and creates a full and complete integration of life. He also addresses designing communities which account for environmental considerations and environmental protections. Jerome L. Kaufman, also known as Jerry Kaufman, presents his study and recommendations for the Anacostia-Bolling land.
