Villafana is an entrepreneur and inventor who has invented and developed numerous medical devices, especially in relation to cardiology.
The collection documents Manny Villafana, inventor, entrepreneur and founder of several medical device companies since 1971. The majority of the collection pertains to St. Jude Medical, which introduced the mechanical heart valve technology that became the industry standard. The collection is mostly comprised of the papers of the various companies started by Villafana, including Med General, Inc.; Cardiac Pacemakers, Inc.; St. Jude Medical, Inc.; Helix BioCore, Inc.; CABG Medical, Inc.; ATS Medical, Inc.; Kips Bay Medical, Inc. These include start-up papers, business correspondence, papers relating to stocks, annual reports, meeting minutes, press releases, clippings, and brochures.
