Simonson was a stage hand who built sets for several Philadelphia theaters, including the Arch Street Theatre, Standard Theatre, Forrest Theatre, Kensington Theatre, American Theatre and the Wilmington Theatre. Sometime after 1910 he was a stage carpenter at The Metropolitan Opera House in Philadelphia.
A plat book compiled by Simonson, a stage hand, containing design drawings for stage sets for various theaters in Philadelphia. A list of plays appears at the beginning of the volume, and the designs are indexed.
