The Center for Anacostia Studies was the predecessor of the Anacostia Neighborhood Museum research department.
Summary:
Leopold Edwards is interviewed about growing up in Jamaica and his participation in the political Jamaican youth movement in the school system. Edwards discusses reading the constitutions of the U.S. and other countries in order to draft a Jamaican Constitution for national independence. Edwards attended Howard University in D.C. and helped found the Caribbean American Coalition. He talks about the many other Caribbean organizations to which he belonged and talks about the causes of waves of immigration from Jamaica to the U.S. A transcript of the interview is available for reference in the archives.
An interview of Leopold Edwards, conducted 1992 December 3 for the Black Mosaic exhibition. Black Mosaic was an exhibition exploring the immigration of people of African descent from Central and South America and the Caribbean to the Washington Metropolitan Area. The show was organized by the Anacostia Museum and held there from August 21, 1994 through August 7, 1995
