The Center for Anacostia Studies was the predecessor of the Anacostia Neighborhood Museum research department.
Summary:
Serge Bellegarde is interviewed about his life in Haiti and adjusting to life in the U.S. after he relocated in 1968. The interview focuses on Bellegarde's background in Haitian music and his involvement with Haitian bands in the D.C. area. He also discusses the development of the Haitian community in D.C. and how language effected the lives and transitional period for immigrants. An abbreviated transcript of the interview is available for reference in the archives.
An interview of Serge Bellegarde, conducted for the Black Mosaic exhibition. Black Mosaic was an exhibition exploring the immigration of people of African descent from Central and South America and the Caribbean to the Washington Metropolitan Area. The show was organized by the Anacostia Museum and held there from August 21, 1994 through August 7, 1995
