Summary:
Arturo Griffiths, who moved to Washington, D.C. as a child when his father was thrown out of Panama for political reasons, is interviewed about his life as an immigrant and building an immigrant community in D.C.He discusses the image of American life he had as a child from watching American television shows and how his experience in D.C. differed from that image. Griffiths also discusses the work of his businessman father, who organized the Washington Ghetto Industrial Development Corporation, and talks about race and segregation. An abbreviated transcript of the interview is available for reference in the archives.
An interview of Arturo Griffiths, conducted for the Black Mosaic exhibition. Black Mosaic was an exhibition exploring the immigration of people of African descent from Central and South America and the Caribbean to the Washington Metropolitan Area. The show was organized by the Anacostia Museum and held there from August 21, 1994 through August 7, 1995
