Harold C. Conklin (b. 1926) was an anthropologist and professor at Yale University who visited William C. Sturtevant briefly before the opening of the 1998 Smithsonian Folklife Festival, which featured a large exhibition on the Philippines. William C. Sturtevant was curator of North American Ethnology in the Department of Anthropology at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History and Conklin had conducted extensive research in Southeast Asia with particular focus on the Philippines. Photographer Patricia O. Afable, a Philippine-born anthropologist, was a research associate in the museum's Asian Cultural History Program at the time.
