Additional information from Margaret Wade-Lewis publication reads, "The project Turner proposed [to the United States Department of State in charge of the Fulbright program] would have occupied several researchers for a few years. First, he planned to examine the eight Yoruba dialects in Nigeria, 'collecting Yoruba folklore, and putting into written form, with English translations, as much as the unwritten folk literature as time permits.' Second, Turner intended to utilize the Linguistic Atlas methodology as he prepared a special worksheet. He would interview informants from the eight dialect groups for several months each, supplementing his phonetic transcriptions with wire recordings. the result was to be 'sufficient information for making scientific analysis of the sounds, syntax, morphology, and tones.' Turner proposed to utilize the data for multiple purposes -to prepare a descriptive grammar of the dialects..., an analysis of their tones..., a study of the vocabulary..., an annotated collection of the folktales... in Yoruba with English translations..., an annotated collection of miscellaneous folk material, such as proverbs..., orations, sermons, prayers, narratives of religious experience, life histories of informants..., and a collection of folk songs representing each of the provinces, with music transcriptions and with the lyrics in both Yoruba and English."
