Price was an American ice skater who skated with ice shows throughout Europe and the United States during the 1940s and 1950s. He started with Sonja Henie's ice show company, then later performed with other companies. Later in life he produced Las Vegas-style nightclub shows and he translated and presented many significant Broadway musicals in the German Theatre. He died in 2005.
The collection documents the life and career of ice skater Dick Price, with emphasis on the 1940s and 1950s, when he was in the prime of his career and performing in ice shows throughout Europe. Includes several photograph albums featuring portraits and action photographs of Price and other skaters, some autographed, highlights of his travels, his friends and family. Also includes a scrapbook containing clippings and other printed materials; letters, most sent from Europe by Price to his parents, describing performances and his travel adventures; printed materials, especially programs from the various ice shows; personal financial records; and early documents such as school report cards.
2012 addendum includes photographs, clippings, theater programs and flyers, and a letter. An email of condolence sent to Price's brother on the occasion of his death is also included. The printed materials relate to shows in Germany and most are German.
