Shaun D. Parker was born prematurely in 1984, to Shirl A. Parker. At an early age, Shaun was diagnosed with mental retardation, and began attending schools that could implement special, individualized education programs. By the time he was an adolescent, Shaun was able to join mainstream classes and become involved in extracurricular activities. His mother Shirl fought to give him a normal life and the best possible educational opportunities. His present whereabouts are unknown.
The collection consists of the documentation assembled by Shaun Parker's mother, Shirl, throughout his childhood, and documents the life, education, and extracurricular activities of a Washington, D.C. child with special needs.
