Note from Ms. West from "Remembering Black Washington" exhibition comment card: "I remember vividly going to the Scurlock Studio on U Street to have my engagement photo taken which was going to be sent to the newspapers for the big announcement! I also remember the Scurlocks who also took all of our wedding pictures and we have the album still 42 years later. Most of all I remember my mother saying Scurlock will be the wedding photographer for they were the very best."
Summary:
Studio portrait of Ms. Berry, taken for newspapers announcements of her engagement to Togo Dennis West, Jr. Rubber-stamped on verso, "Scurlock / 900 You St., N.W. / Washington, D.C." Handwritten in ink on verso, "Miss Gail Estelle Berry" plus address. With xerographic copies of the New York Times announcement, Feb. 27, 1996, and "Wash. Post -- Times Star (Feb. 1996).
