The Hales Bar Dam was built by the Chattanooga and Tennessee River Power Company between the years 1905 and 1913. It was acquired by he Tennessee Valley Authority in 1939.
Papers relating to the construction of the Hales Bar Dam on the Tennessee River, as well as documents from repairs and maintenance on the dam in the decades following its completion. Includes the contract for the construction of the dam by the Chattanooga and Tennessee River Power Company; articles, including articles in engineering journals; specifications, plans, and blueprints for the dam and elements of it; reports on various topics such as maintenance problems; a report on the geology of the river; photographs; a disassembled album containing photographs of the construction, the power station, the dam during a flood, caissons, and workers.
