Benson Doyle Mitchell's father, Jesse Mitchell, opened the Industrial Bank of Washington in 1934. It was formed from the Industrial Savings Bank which opened in 1913 but was forced to close under the economic crisis of 1932. Benson took over as President in 1955 after his father's death.
