This collection consists of personal materials reltaing to Short's childhood, family and friends, as well as business materials relating to his career as a performer, and includes correspondence, including letters from entertainers such as Liza Minelli, Charles Putney, and Hildegarde; photographs; contracts, including contracts with the Carlyle Hotel, and other business papers, including some relating to a concert with Mabel Mercer; publicity materials; concert programs; musical materials including sheet music, lyrics, and recordings; research and writings, including a partial script for a play; awards and honors; and art works owned by Short.
Photographs: Include works by Carl Van Vechten, Horst, Hurrell, and Scavullo, and portraits by Clarence Sinclair Bull.
