According to Jacqueline Scurlock Colbert, the persons from left to right are: Carl Reid, Addison Rand, Mercer Ellington, Marjorie Reid, Jerome ---, Billy Strayhorn, Natalie Scurlock (George Scurlock's wife and Jacqueline Scurlock's mother), Duke Ellington, Edna Ellington, Helen Rand. At the center rear, standing, the shortest man wearing glasses and bow tie is William Thomas Strayhorn (known as "Billy" and sometimes "Sweet Pea"), 1915-1967. To Strayhorn's right is a female vocalist--[possibly] Ginny Greer. The man to the left of Strayhorn may be Ellington's brother. Other images of [Strayhorn] can be seen at and Van Vechten also photographed him in the 1950s... (From Suzanne Jenkins, 11/30/06)
