Notes:
Joseph Selle was a street photographer operating a business called Fox Movie Flash at 942 Market Street, San Francisco. The donor of the collection, Bob Rose, also worked as a photographer for the company. The photographers used modified DeVry movie cameras to photograph pedestrians on speculation, hoping for future orders. According to Andrew Eskind of the Visual Studies Workshop, the business was in operation from the 1930s-1970s.
