Notes:
S. Newman Darby and Ken Darby conceived, designed and developed The Darby Sailboard in November 1964.
Newman Darby, born in West Pittston, Pa., invented windsurfing in 1964 when he connected a sail to a board by means of a universal rope joint. The windsurfer was ultimately patented by Hoyle Schweitzer and Jim Drake in 1970 and became known as windsurfer.
Summary:
Sketches, drawings, plans, patents, legal files, photographs, correspondence, notebooks, illustrated periodicals, advertisements, sketchbooks, film, videocassette, documenting Darby's inventions--the windsurf board, sails, and rigging.
2010 addendum: four black and white photographs and an issue of the journals, Catalyst and Popular Mechanics, 1961.
