Subseries C: Some works written expressly for the Ellington organization and copyrighted by Tempo Music. Materials include lead sheets from Tempo company files, original manuscripts in both Ellington's and Strayhorn's hands, short titles, and extended works. Includes Strayhorn manuscripts and compositions before partnership with Ellington, early arrangements of "Black, Brown, and Beige," negatives for "Pousse Cafe," scores and parts for "A Drum Is a Woman," and lead sheets for the multi-movement work "The River."
