Exhibition Catalogs
Date:
1876
Notes:
Appears in exhibition catalog as entry no. 15
The original of this Sunset was painted by DENIS, a Swiss who resided at Rome. The Cow which stands across the horizon is admirably placed, and the rough and weedy foreground in its burnt brown colour contrasts well with the roseate gold of the glowing sky. Such skies are sometimes seen in America, but oftener in Italy. [P. 13.]
Catalogue of Peale's Italian Pictures, now exhibiting at Sully and Earle's Gallery. In Chestnut opposite the State-House. Admittance 25 cents--children half price--Season Tickets 50 cents. Philadelphia: Printed for the Publisher. 1831.
