Born at Pilas, near Seville, in 1613; died 1685, aged 72. This is a fine specimen of the master in power of color, drawing, and expression. The rotundity and relief of the figure are admirable; the carnations are very pure, and the landscape powerfully expressed and admirably painted. [P. 22.]
