Born at Antwerp in 1610; died 1694, aged 84. A perfect and silvery specimen of this imitator of nature. He possessed the art of relieving his lights by other lights; for sharpness of touch, a clean pencil, and brilliant colouring, he is in that style unequalled. His small pictures are always the most preferable. [P. 20.]
