Portrait of Dr. John Thomas, Lord Bishop of Rochester, Dean of Westminster, Knight of the Honourable Order of the Bath, (painting)
Reynolds, Joshua Sir
Appears in exhibition catalog as entry no. 7
P.R.A. This portrait of Sir Joshua's distinguished friend, is one of the finest he ever painted. It is, perhaps, true to nature, and more pure than the celebrated portrait of Lord Howth, filed in the National Gallery. The face appears to breathe, while the physiognomy makes the individuality of a true resemblance. The print of this picture realized the highest price of any print of Sir Joshua's, at the sale of the effects of the late Sir Thomas Lawrence. [P. 9.]
