NOTE.--Johannes Remigius Lange, a Flemish painter, who flourished about 1555. He studied under Vandyck, and is said to have been a close imitator of the style of that master, particularly in his coloring. His works are generally of large size, and his design is greatly inferior to the coloring. [P. 14; see entry 04130001 for related commentary.]
