"Carletto Cagliari. (1570-1596.) Verona. Elder son of Paola Cagliari, known as Paul Veronese. He died at the early age of 26 years. Charity. 64 x 26. This is an exceedingly fine old painting, as even a superficial examination will show. The face of the female figure nursing the child is of rare beauty, sweetness and grace; the children are painted with surprising truthfulness, freedom and power. Considering the age of this picture, the flesh tints must have been as near perfection as possible when it was first painted. It is one of the best canvases in the whole collection."
