"(Germ.) Duesseldorf. Pupil of the Berlin Academy and of Schadow, whom he followed to Duesseldorf. He has formed many of the best painters of the Duesseldorf school. Study of disappointed love. 12 x 16. An unusually good study of facial expression, quiet and subdued in character and tone, with a great deal of sadness impressed upon it."
