"(Fr.) Paris. Pupil of Barrias. Medals 1864, 1867, 1868. Legion of Honor, 1870. Med. 3rd cl. Universal Exposition, 1878. An artist with no living superior in his special line. rehearsing. 7 x 11. It is not uncommon in continental churches, where the Gregorian chant is used, to accompany the voices on the double bass. The subject of this picture is engaged in rehearsing for some forthcoming festival in the church choir. This picture is painted with great fidelity to nature."
